We considered this chromoblastomycosis but,
technically, with the short duration, small
lesion size, lack of pseudoepitheliomatous
hyperplasia and lack of intraepidermal abscesses,
the broader term phaeohyphomycosis,
of which chromoblastomycosis is a subset,
appears to be more appropriate in this case.
Additional Clinical Information
Three weeks earlier, the patient punctured
his finger with a splinter.
The indurated papule formed at the site of
puncture.
